OUT OF STATE STUDENTS WILL BE CHARGED THE NORMAL TUITION FEE ($575.00 in 2022) The courses included in this catalog are those that will fulfill the 2022 requirements for 24 hours of CPT within the broad categories approved by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission (OPOTC). This one day course is designed to qualify students to become instructors in the use of individual chemical aerosol units (e.g., OC). Officers attending this course will receive an update/refresher of Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFSTs) and must successfully pass an SFST proficiency evaluation. Instructor: Holly Latham has been employed as a Forensic Scientist since 1999. You must achieve the minimum standard for your gender and age. Students should also bring work-type gloves as they will be asked to help with cone movement and placement. Humans as a target surface Students will also participate in decision-making training that will include threat identification and force on force scenarios. Students will need to bring a laptop. Through the use of hands-on exercises, students learn the steps in the photographic process, basic camera operations, selecting correct exposure and shutter speeds, controlling depth of field, the proper way to take crime scene photographs and other topics. There will be extended hours for a night shoot. Be prepared for long days on the range including an adjusted schedule on one of the days to accommodate live fire during low-level light conditions. , & operator level training with the patrol rifle Students build on the skills taught in Crime Scene Photography I to photographically document a crime scene, fingerprints and other small evidence. Exercises include collection of insect specimens and excavation of mock grave sites along with collection of other related evidence. Course materials will be provided on a USB flash drive. This 6 day, 40 hour course is designed to provide basic semi-automatic pistol training for bailiffs, court security officers, court constables, probation officers, and other applicable court personnel. Officers will need a calculator with square root function and will participate in outside exercises. Pursuant to R.C. Courtroom testimony - explain/describe analysis and It is recommended that students are proficient drivers prior to enrollment and are in good physical condition. It is also recommended, but not required, that students have attended a tactical driving course or an emergency vehicle operations course within the past three years. The course will cover equipment requirements and considerations for duty use, policy examples, sight pictures, sight acquisition, presentations, zeroing, sight reading/ tracking, target transitions, alternate positions, barricade shooting, malfunctions, shooting on the move, and low light engagements. Students should bring resource materials and requisite props to create and conduct instruction in a law enforcement cognitive or psychomotor skills area. There is extensive practical applications of driving techniques to enable the student to demonstrate competency in driving skills and to instruct others in these techniques. Students are required to bring the following equipment: shotgun, duty pistol, 750 buckshot rounds, (250 must be duty buckshot, 500 can be any other buck or birdshot target load) 100 slug rounds, 200 pistol rounds, three magazines for the pistol, duty belt, holster, magazine pouches, handheld flashlight, and other range related equipment which includes participant's individual medical equipment (rescue inhalers, EpiPens, etc. Students should bring a laptop or other device capable of reading a usb thumb drive. Course materials will be distributed via thumb drive. This course meets part of the OPOTC requirements for approval as an in-service Re-qualification and/or Peace Officer Basic Training Firearms Instructor. Principles will include legal standards for use of force, documenting use of force and testifying in court, officer mindset, subject approach, striking, takedowns, handcuffing, ground defense, body lock/hold releases, weapon defenses (i.e., weapon retention, shot avoidance, edged and impact weapon defense), and scenario management. The course addresses the procedures for conducting investigations of various types of human deaths and the investigator's role throughout the process. Officers will be instructed on advanced techniques for application of mathematical principles and equations to determine vehicle speeds from tire marks, the use of traffic templates, driver and witness interviews, human factors, evidence from vehicles and the roadway, field sketches, measuring, diagramming, photography, and preparing their case for court. This scenario based training will expose Officers to different real life situations and structural layouts that they will have to navigate when responding to an active shooting.
